Premium Local Beef

At our family farm, we take pride in raising premium beef that reflects our commitment to animal care and stewardship of the land. Our cattle are nurtured in a stress-free environment, allowing them to thrive and develop rich, flavorful meat. By selling directly to consumers, we ensure that you receive the highest quality beef, packed with taste and tenderness. Experience the difference of farm-fresh, premium beef and savor the flavors that our careful practices create.

Our Practices

Locally grown and responsibly raised

Our cattle are born on a nearby farm and spend their first months on pasture with their mother.  They come to our farm at six to eight months of age weighing 550 to 700 pounds.  When the weather is pleasant, they graze our lush pasture and have access to the barn for protection from the elements.  When they approach market weight, we keep them inside and feed a high-energy ration of our own hay and corn to produce the tender and flavorful beef that we're known for.

Our Story

Family Focused

Shells Run Farm is named for the stream that runs through the back of the property.  We moved here in 2014, when we were expecting our fifth son.  We purchased our first calf in 2015, and our sons promptly named it Cheeseburger.  The boys enjoyed the process of raising Cheeseburger, and we all enjoyed the meat!  Since then, we've continued to raise beef cattle to provide meat for our family, and we began selling to extended family and friends.  Raising cattle is a project that brings joy to our entire family.  We especially love watching them contentedly grazing in the pasture.  Tender, flavorful beef has always been our goal, and our customers often remark that it's the "best beef I've ever had".  We're proud of the way we treat our cattle and welcome customers to stop in and see for yourself how your beef is grown.

How It Works

Experience Premium Local Beef for Yourself

Our cattle are processed at Smucker's Meats in Mount Joy, PA.  The beef is dry-aged for at least seven days before being cut, vacuum-packed, and flash-frozen to ensure freshness for a year or more.  We prefer to sell by the quarter, but will sell in smaller quantities if requested.  A typical quarter will yield 125 to 150 pounds of meat and will cost $900 to $1050 depending on the weight of the animal and the options you choose for cutting and packaging.  Depending on cut options, roughly half of the meat is steaks and roasts, with the balance being ground beef, any amount of which can made into hamburger patties.  You can customize your order to choose which steaks and roasts you prefer, how many hamburger patties you'd like, and any specialty items like chipped beef, stew meat, soup bones, organs, or fat.
